The New Zealand Big Black Motorsport Team, headed by driver Raana Horan and navigator Klem Christiansen, have come out on top after the running of the Haeusler’s Mallee Rally ARB 400 prologue and top ten shootout. Horan and Christiansen clocked in fourth place after their prologue run, their stunning run moving them to the top of the timesheets in the top ten shootout.

They improved their time by 3.76 seconds, securing pole position for tomorrows race start. An impressive feat considering the first time Horan drove his new purchase, the ex Jack Rhodes Jimco, for the first time when he drove it off the trailer for Friday nights scrutiny.

Although clocking in a slower top ten time, just 1.39seconds off their prologue score, Danny Brown and George Apted maintained their second place to start the #42 Jimco alongside Horan for the customary two at a time Mallee Rally start.

Andy Ryan and Dave Smith #50 also produced a slower top ten time, the difference of 2.38 seconds moving them from first after the prologue to third position, setting up a battle of the Andy’s for race start as he lines up next to Andy Brown and Mark Sedran on the second row of the start grid.

Moving from sixth to fifth and knocking a whopping 5.558seconds off their prologue time was Aaron James and Peter Luckraft #93. Also taking a sizeable chunk out of their prologue time – 5.92 seconds - was Jason Corless and Paul Ward; the #15 Rimco securing sixth place. Luke Erceg and Daniel Ziembinski drove a consistent prologue and top ten shootout, maintaining seventh place and the first Class 1 buggy off the start line for the race proper. Having said that, Erceg will line up with fellow Class 1 Tatum; Dale Martin and Adrian Rowe #101 tumbling down the timesheets from fifth to eighth after a 2.38second slower top ten time.

Matt and Gary Curtis #936 slotted the GCR Rhino into ninth place ahead of Toby Reimann and Craig Redding who were relegated to tenth place when alternator failure stopped them from talking the top ten run.

Aaron and Liz Haby were on track for a fast time when Haby made an uncharacteristic miscalculation and ‘turtled’ the Element Prodigy. Unharmed and the car back on four wheels, Haby helped out with media and promotion rides and declared the #57 ready to race.

In the end 98 teams lined up for the enduro course and then prologue course reconnaissance in perfect conditions. 95 will greet the start lights for the 2017 Haeusler’s Mallee Rally ARB 400, the third round of the ARB Australian Off Road Racing Series, when the lights go out at 9:30am Sunday morning and Lake Tyrrell come alive.
