Kalgoorlie Desert Race
Friday, 13 October 2017
Entries are open and steadily coming in for the Black Diamond Drilling Kalgoorlie Desert Race on 28th – 29th October.

Ian French, event representative explains “four years in the making... building the perfect beast... and we have put the band back together... Dan Rogers, Nina Hargraves, Ben Erceg and Alistar Colley to make sure your racing is fair, safe and close.”

“Gus , Terry, Andy, Adam and the Western Desert Racers have taken all the lessons learnt from years of success at Hyden and racing the national circuit to craft out an exciting and challenging 142 kilometre track on the sprawling ranges of Mt Vetters station.”

“That’s at Kalgoorlie... not far from the SA border... closer to the Eastern States and home to 36,000 friendlies all waiting for you to light up their town”

The event is based at the Kalgoorlie Motorplex on the clubs leased land and heads north through Mt Vetters Station. The track even takes in a lap of Lake Perkolilli, the original home of Western Australia motorsport since 1914.

It has a combination of all terrains including station tracks, washouts, gravel roads, lakeside runs and half a circuit of Lake Perkolilli.

Western Desert Races have taken advantage of the local highways and haul roads to enable easy access, spectator and recovery points. There are 15 checkpoints so there will be a watchful eye on the progress of all competitors and spectators.

Motor racing has been a strong part of the Kalgoorlie mining history and they have major support from the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder and many of the mining companies. Ian French continued “we are being encouraged to build this event for national competition cars and bikes so it may take a place on the National Desert Racing calendar in the very near future. The entries are rolling in. This may be the next best thing on the calendar and the season isn’t over yet. Load up your Jigga and your family and come and take the Challenge”.

“The Black Diamond Drilling Kalgoorlie Desert Race will have 440 competitive kilometres, a street party, bikes and cars… see you there.”
