The Millicent Sand Buggy club have been running the local Off Road Racing event at Mumbannar for a number of years and the race always proves popular with entrants and spectators alike.

Just 30km east of Mt Gambier along the Princes Highway, the track is a winding loop set amongst a picturesque backdrop of the local scrub.

Local racing legend Garry Turnbull has the most wins at the event, greeting the checkered flag first on three occasions, including last year’s race and also runner up once. His V8 powered Aceco buggy has served Garry well with its power and handling second to none.

Showing that power is not everything, Naracoorte’s Peter Tamblyn and his 1600cc buggy have been on the outright podium twice. Consistent laps and smooth driving ensures fast times at the short course event and Tamblyn has also taken numerous class honours and podiums.

The natural sweeping terrain and jumps has also had two winners from the Trophy Trucks in the hands of the entertaining Greg Gartner from Penola in 2011 and Andy Murdoch of Lucindale in 2012. Both of these vehicles are crowd favourites as they fling dirt metres into the air as they are thrown sideways across the racing track.

A great range of vehicles is always entered at Mumbannar and recent years have seen a different racing format included to give all competitors the best opportunity to enjoy the racing to its upmost and the spectators are treated to some great wheel to wheel action throughout the day.

The 2018 event will be held on Saturday May 19th, going green at 10am.

Discounted entries close Friday 11th May at 8pm with premium entries closing on 18th May at 9pm.
Free camping Friday and Saturday night.
