While the wet and cold conditions had spectators seeking shelter, it made for near ideal racing conditions at the Century Batteries Brian Martin Memorial Wynarka Enduro this weekend.

Mother Nature was in good form as she alternated between rainy conditions and clear sunny skies with Carl Haby and daughters Caitlin and Janelle sharing the navigating duties claiming outright victory after 14 hard fought 20km laps. The Haby family clocking in consistent lap times over the course of the weekend in a drama free run.

Overnight leader and all the way from Western Australia, Scott Schiller ended his winning run on lap one today when the Chev power plant gave out in the #971 SS Racetech Hustler. Matt Curtis and Sam Vanstone were lucky to hold onto second outright, crossing the finish line today with a very deflated and delaminating rear tyre; the 7minute plus buffer they’d pulled on the field their saving grace.

David and Nathan Hall rounded out the Century Batteries Brian Martin Memorial Wynarka Enduro outright podium greeting the checkered flag just 17seconds ahead of the Andrews family the Dad Rich driving and daughters Jamie and Lauren sharing the navigating duties.

Daughter and Dad team Shannyn and Andrew Fitzgerald drove the #209 Super 1650 machine into fifth place, 10 minutes off the pace of Andrews is Shannyn’s first drive in nearly 12 months.

15 of the 35 starters completed the full race distance with the last to cross the line, Eric English and Shaun Rudd, putting in an extraordinary effort to salute the checkered flag. In sight of the finish line, the right hand tie rod broke spearing the Nissan Navara across the track and into a bog, in full view of the spectating crowd. With just over a kilometre to go, recovery pulled the #532 Performance 2WD out of the bog and, with some bush mechanic skills, the crew tied up the tie rod, and with limited steering, limped to the finish line and the checkered flag.

All in all it was an exciting weekend of off road racing through the Martin family farm at Wynarka. Full results can be found here.
