Plant victory at Pooncarie
Sunday, 18 April 2021
The ARB Australian Off Road Racing Championship has set the benchmark high for 2021 with the opening round at Pooncarie this weekend a roaring success. The inaugural running of the Pooncarie ARB Desert Dash has taken a mammoth effort from the members of the Sunraysia Motorsports Club to get off the ground in what was a very trying and uncertain last 12 months.

Local young guns Robert Plant and Ryan Burr #128 topped the field in prologue, dropped back to third place at day one end and came out swinging for today’s three laps to better their more higher powered rivals Aaron Haby with Liz Haby and Wayne Tabe #1 sharing the navigating duties, by a mere 10.721 seconds after 360km of racing through the desert. Plant as humbled in his victory but, like the rest of the field, was grateful to be back racing.

In a family affair positions three and four went to brothers Brent and Dale Martin respectively with Brent and Andrew De Simone driving the #120 Jimco into third place, over 5 minutes behind Haby while Dale and Adrian Rowe #133 crossed the line under 6 minutes off the bace of Brent.

Single seat driver Daniel Wells #1008 rounded out the Pooncarie ARB Desert Dash top five just 50 seconds behind Martin.
