Red Bull racer, Toby Price (#487), has made the perfect start to his quest to claim his first King of the Desert title in the Car category, recording the fastest time for cars during Method Race Wheels Prologue Day at the 2021 Tatts Finke Desert Race.

Alongside Navigator, Joseph Weining, Price secured the top spot in tomorrow’s starting order for the 2021 Tatts Finke Desert Race with a blistering time of 4 minutes 38 seconds around the 8.3 kilometre Prologue track. The team also took home the $5,000 Outright Prologue Winner prize thanks to Methods Race Wheels.

Price’s time was 2.8 seconds quicker than the time he and navigator Jason Duncan set that claimed pole position in 2019.

Following a DNF in that year and in 2018, Price and navigators Mark Dutton and Joseph Weining will be aiming to finally take out that top step on the podium when Race Day 1 gets underway tomorrow.

Josh Howells and Eric Hume (#15) were 3.8 seconds adrift of the pole setters, and will be gunning for their first Tatts Finke Desert Race title following a second place on the podium in 2019.

Beau Robinson and Shane Hutt (#413) rounded out the car category top three for Methods Race Wheels Prologue and will start tomorrow’s 226 kilometre journey to Finke (Aputula) from third position.

John Towers and Bruce Young (#27) will start Race Day 1 from fourth position, alongside Aaron James (#93) in fifth.

Toby Whateley and Simon Herrmann were awarded the $2,500 cash prize thanks to Method Race Wheels for claiming Outright UTV Prologue Winner. They will start Race Day 1 in 19th position.

Full results for the 140-strong car field can be viewed here.

The 2021 Tatts Finke Desert Race will begin when the lights go out for leg one of the Car category race tomorrow at 7.30am.

The 2021 Kings of the Desert for the car category will be crowned when the field completes its return journey from Finke (Aputula) to Alice Springs on Monday.

The Tatts Finke Desert Race is held annually in Alice Springs on the Queen’s Birthday June long weekend.

2021 is the first year of Method Race Wheels’ naming rights partnership of Prologue Day and the 21st year of Tatts’ naming-rights partnership of the Finke Desert Race.
