After a promising opening to his 2022 season, young gun Josh Wiedman and crew are currently in transit southbound to the remote New South Wales township of Pooncarie for Round 2 of the 2022 BFGoodrich Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship.

Due to wet weather postponing Round 1 of the ARB Mickey Thompson QLD Championship at his parents property near Leyburn, 16 year old Wiedman quickly changed plans, setting sights on an AORC assault.

In only his second Cobb & Co St George 399 campaign, Wiedman launched from the blocks in style, recording the fastest time of the strong 35plus SXS field. Wiedman produced an incredible seventh outright which secured him a place in the highly anticipated Top 10 shootout.

Despite a few minor mechanical setbacks across the remainder of the weekend which hampered his run, the young Queenslander still managed a respectable 19th outright and seventh in class. Wiedman gained a lot from the season opener and heads into this weekend’s Pooncarie Desert Dash with some unfinished business; now well aware of the patience and experience required at AORC events.

With his entry locked in for a maiden Tatts Finke Desert Race appearance over the June Long weekend, along with the upcoming Leyburn 100 on home soil, Wiedman has also taken to the Rally scene, guaranteeing a hectic few months ahead for the team.

Wiedman also recently competed at the Federal Short Course, a round of the ARB QLD Off Road Championship; unfortunately, his crusade was cut short whilst running second outright on Sunday due to a broken king pin.

With no rest for the wicked, Wiedman and crew were quickly back on the road to Oberon for Round 1 of the MA NSW Rally Championship. In extraordinary fashion, Wiedman took home a dominant 1600cc class victory which left many experienced onlookers blown away. It was a memorable debut performance, boosted by his valuable off road racing experience.

Post Finke Wiedman, who plans to compete at all Queensland rounds, will return to the rally track at the Australian Championship event at Gympie before tackling Australia’s best again at the season ending Coffs Rally in November.

As Wiedman and crew trek south for their first off road experience interstate, they would once again like to thank KMC Wheels for coming onboard for a third consecutive year, plus UTV Surgery, Black Diamond Powder coating, Link ECU, DirtKingz and Bliss Custom Machining for their ongoing support and commitment towards a successful 2022 season.
